There’s something about early fall in the North Cascades that feels almost cinematic. The air turns crisp, the trees trade their summer greens for deep golds and rust, and the light lingers just long enough to turn the whole forest golden before slipping behind the peaks. Franklin Falls was the perfect place for this adventure elopement, tucked away in the mountains, surrounded by evergreens and mist, with the sound of the falls carrying through the canyon.
We started the hike in the late afternoon, letting the couple move slowly through the trail and soak it all in. The colors this time of year are unreal , moss covered rocks, amber leaves, and that soft light that makes everything glow. It was quiet, just the two of them (and me tagging along with my camera), which made the whole evening feel even more intimate.
When we reached the waterfall, the light hit just right, that golden haze filtering through the trees. They exchanged vows on the slick stones near the base of the falls, laughing between the sound of the rushing water. It was simple, real, and full of emotion, exactly what I love about elopements like this.
As the sun dipped lower, we made our way back down the trail, stopping to capture a few last portraits under the canopy. The forest in early fall has this warmth that’s hard to describe, rich, moody, and so romantic. Every step felt like a reminder of how beautiful and accessible the PNW can be for couples who want something real and raw without a big crowd or long hike.
If you’ve been dreaming about eloping somewhere that feels wild but still easy to get to, Franklin Falls is one of those spots that never disappoints. Whether you’re saying your vows under the waterfall or just wandering the trail together, it’s the kind of place that feels straight out of a dream, especially in fall.
